Plotting a Scatterplot - sure. Why not?

Maybe this has been my problem understanding Christianity ...
The scatterplot shows definitively how easily one can have a high IQ (such as me .. ha ha) but still show mediocre or low in abilities. The region of +.30 correlates to an appreciation of music, arts, and desire for spirituality.

That statement also applies to other capabilities that are sometimes called "senses", like proprioception, equilibrioception, thermoception, nociception, chronoception and interoception. For those unenlighened individuals, here are the meanings for each term.

Proprioception:
The body's internal sense of self-movement and spatial orientation, allowing you to know where your limbs are positioned relative to each other without looking.
Equilibrioception: The sense of balance and spatial orientation, mediated primarily by the vestibular system in the inner ear to prevent you from falling.
Thermoception: The perception of temperature and temperature changes through thermal receptors in the skin and internal organs (sensing heat and cold).
Nociception: The neural process of encoding and processing noxious (painful or potentially tissue-damaging) stimuli via specialized sensory receptors called nociceptors.
Chronoception: The subjective, internal perception of the passage of time, which can warp or feel different depending on engagement, age, or mental state.
Interoception: The perception of internal bodily states, including heartbeat, respiration, hunger, thirst, and the general physiological condition of the body's internal organs.

A correlation of r = +0.30 represents a weak-to-moderate positive linear relationship: as Variable X increases, Variable Y tends to increase, but with significant variation around the general trend line.
* Strength: Weak-to-moderate positive correlation (r = +0.30).
* Coefficient of Determination (r^2): 0.09 (or 9\%), meaning 9\% of the variance in Variable Y is explained by Variable X, while the remaining 91\% is driven by other factors or random noise.
* Visual Characteristics:
* The cloud of data points exhibits a slight upward tilt from left to right.
* Individual data points show broad dispersion around the regression trend line, illustrating that a high value in X does not strictly guarantee a high value in Y.

Phrase "A New Heavens"

Good morning

A loyal reader reminded me this morning that it has truly been awhile since I have voiced an opinion on this medium. I am past due for such an exercise, therefore, herein is my thought for the day:
The following sentence in a Bible summary book (the title of which I shall not disclose in order to prevent embarrassment of the author) explicitly stated "God promises justice, salvation, and a new heavens and new earth  ... "a new heavens" caught me completely off guard. It  immediately piqued my interest. Not having previously seen that combined voice of a singular 'a' together with a plural 'heavens', I decided it was time to do some research. What I found revealed that the combined phrase was not readily present as an exact match in any bible translation that I could locate; as interesting as prognosticating such a future event might seem.
It turned out to be a combination of a slight grammatical typo in the study guide's summary and a mixing of translations. The sentence explicitly referencing Isaiah chapters 56-66 in that study guide authoritatively stated ("God promises justice, salvation, and a new heavens and new earth"). Although, as written, the sentence does not seem to appear word-for-word, it is a hybrid paraphrase of actual biblical phrasing found across multiple versions:

  1. The "A New" vs. Plural "Heavens" Mismatch:
    In English grammar, saying "a new heavens" pairs a singular indefinite article ("a") with a plural noun ("heavens"). Most Bible translations avoid this by phrasing it either as plural without the "a" ("new heavens and a new earth", like Isaiah 65:17 in the NIV) or making both singular ("a new heaven and a new earth", like Revelation 21:1 in many versions).

  2. Where the phrasing comes from:

    • The plural "heavens" (without the standalone "a") is standard in Old Testament translations of Isaiah 65:17 and 66:22 (e.g., NIV: "new heavens and a new earth").

    • The singular "a new [heaven]" combined with "a new earth" shows up in New Testament verses like 2 Peter 3:13 in certain translations (like the ESV or NKJV: "a new heaven and a new earth").

The author of the study guide likely blended these common phrasing patterns together casually in this chapter's summary, resulting in the awkward grammatical mismatch of "a new heavens."

In the Book of Revelation (specifically Revelation 21:1), the phrase refers to the ultimate recreation or transformation of the physical universe, described textually in the original Greek as "a new heaven and a new earth" (ouranos kainos kai ge kaine).

Core Theological Meaning

  • Qualitative Transformation: The Greek word for "new" used here is kainos, indicating something fresh, renewed, and superior in quality and character, rather than a mere chronological replacement.

  • Cosmic Renewal: It signifies the clearing away of the present universe—which has been marred by sin and moral decay—and the establishment of a perfected, untainted physical reality.

  • Elimination of Chaos: The accompanying text notes that "there was no more sea," which biblically symbolizes the final removal of division, danger, and death (the sea frequently representing chaos or the abyss in ancient apocalyptic literature).

  • Ultimate Communion: Rather than a purely ethereal or disembodied state, the new heaven and earth provide the tangible canvas for the New Jerusalem to descend, representing the moment God permanently dwells physically and openly with humanity.

Somehow, "Ultimate Communion" with an almighty God seems very comforting to me. A final outcome of a peaceful and plausible scenario enveloped in a quiet, conflict-free outcome that is realistic and achievable, rather than just a utopian fantasy. Holding onto this belief provides hope that there is truly an afterlife that I can look forward to; spending eternity with loved ones gone before me.

Rest peaceful and reassured.
